THE DEBATE

A live debate on the topic of the day, with four guests. From Monday to Thursday at 7.10 pm Paris time.

Italy elections: A new direction, or is the country adrift?

Latest update : 2018-03-05

By François PICARD

As former Italian PM Matteo Renzi resigns, the 43-year old takes responsibility for the rout of the centre-left that saw his own Democratic Party garner a mere 18 percent of the vote. The country is now split between the far-right League in the north and the anti-establishment Five-Star movement in the south, with both their leaders staking a claim to the prime minister's post. We'll ask what it means for Europe and whether it makes the eurozone's third economy ungovernable.
